| How to Enter Monthly Competition |
|
Monthly photographic competitions are held at most Division meetings. Each member may enter two images per Division, per month. All images must originate in a camera. They can be self developed, commercially developed (by a photo store) or produced digitally. Any enhancement other than overall color and contrast must be made by the photographer. You cannot copy someone else’s artwork including paintings, etchings or other photographs. You can only submit an image once (you can’t enter the same image or a near duplicate in both Print and Projection Divisions). PRINT DIVISION: Chemical and Digital, Color and B&W Prints are entered in the Print Division. To Enter a Print: The Image must be a minimum of 35 square inches (5”X7”) not including the mounting. The outside measurements can be no larger than 320 square inches (16”X20”) with or without a matt. A title and the makers name must be on the back, in the upper left corner (no identifying marks or signatures are allowed on the front). An arrow indicating the direction of the top of the image should be placed in the center top, of the back. The image needs a stiff backing, so it can stand on the print stands. PROJECTION DIVISION: Slides and Digital Images are entered in the Projection Division. To Enter a Slide: For proper viewing, a slide must have a spot in the lower left corner. Hold the slide with the thumb and first finger of your left hand, the way you want it to be viewed; the spot goes where your thumb is on the lower left corner. Print your name and the title of the image on the slide. To Enter a Digitally Projected Image: The projector will project up to 1024 pixals horizontally or 768 pixals vertically. An image with more pixals will be compressed and an image with less pixals will make a smaller file size. Suggest using Adobe RGB color space. 1. First make sure you have processed your image to your satisfaction, and save. To check that you have an 8 bit file, go to: Image/mode/check 8bit channel. 2. Next go to Image/Image size. Check constrain Proportions & Resample Image boxes. Then set resolution to 100 pixels/inch & set longest side to 10 inches. Click OK. 3. Go to File/Save As; Set format to JPG, Name your file, save to desktop. A window should popup with a slider for the compression amount. When you move the slider, a compressed file size will show on the right side. Adjust file size to about 200kb to 300kb. Click OK. 4. Then attach this file to an email to the Image Master, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that it arrives at least two days before the Projection Division Meeting (on Tuesday for a Thursdays Meeting). Make sure the title of the image is in the file name and your first and last name are in the email. For example the file name might be "MtRainierByJohnDoe.jpeg". If you are sending two images, tell him which one is for comments.
