Photo-essay Competition

Remember what happened when we returned to school in the fall?  At least one teacher would ask for the obligatory "what I did on my summer vacation" essay.

Well, I'm asking in advance.

Here's the carrot.  By submitting an entry, you have the opportunity to win photographic points:

Society Photographic Points may be earned as follows:

First Place   3.5       Photographic Points

Second Place  3.0          Photographic Points

Third Place   2.5          Photographic Points

Honorable Mentions 2.0     Photographic Points

The theme:

o    Take some aspect of your summer activities between May 31st, and September 26th and turn it into a photo essay.

Presentation:

o    All entries must be submitted as a digital slide show - if you shoot film, we can help you scan your entry

o    No more than 5 minutes duration

o    Captions, voice or music may be included in the presentation

o    Video will not be permitted this time

o    Open to members only (division membership not required)

o    One entry per member only

Criteria:

a.       How well was the story told

Start with a title, and take us on your journey - it's an essay, not a slide show.

b.      Content

Quality of the content, and how well it helps the story

c.       Presentation

Presentation will always be important, but in this case we will favor the story over the presentation.  We have some wiz bang apps out there that can make super slide shows - we want to judge the content first, presentation second.

Judging:

As always, judging is very subjective.  All entries will be posted to a web site and club members will be able to vote on the entry.  Members will also be able to make comment.

Don't know exactly how we are going to do this yet, but I have some ideas

Preparation:

In September, I will host a workshop (maybe two) for members to learn some of the tools available.  These include, but are not limited to: Lightroom, Photoshop, Power Point, Proshow Gold, Aperture

Schedule:
